The Ledger Crypto Life (CL) Card is a debit card that you fund straight from the crypto sitting in your Ledger Wallet app. You keep your coins on your Ledger device, top up the card when you want to spend, and it works at the till like any Visa. In some regions it ships as a Mastercard instead.

The pitch that sets it apart is simple. You fund a card from self-custodied crypto and you get 1% cashback on everything you buy, paid back in BTC, USDC or USDT depending on where you live. For a Ledger owner who already trusts the hardware and wants to spend a slice of a portfolio without moving everything to an exchange, that is a clean fit.

How the funding actually works

This is the part the marketing softens, so read it twice. Your main crypto stays where it always was: on your Ledger device, controlled by your keys, inside the Ledger Wallet app. When you want to spend, you move funds into the card and sign that transfer with your Ledger. Good so far. The catch sits one layer down. The CL Card and the account behind it are maintained by a third party, Baanx, issued through UAB Monavate for EU customers. So the balance you load onto the card lives in a custodial account, not on your device.

In plain terms: self-custody covers your savings, not your spending float. The money you park on the card is trusted to Baanx while it waits to be spent. That is normal for any crypto card that plugs into Visa or Mastercard, and Ledger is upfront that Baanx provides the card. Just do not read "fund from your Ledger" as "your card balance is on your Ledger". You fund it from there. It does not stay there.

The 1% cashback, honestly

You earn 1% back on all purchases. No category games, no rotating bonuses on the product page. What you get paid in depends on your country: BTC in some regions, USDC or USDT in others. If you want cashback that stacks as Bitcoin over time, and your region pays in BTC, that adds a small tilt to every coffee and grocery run. If your region pays stablecoins, treat it as a flat 1% rebate in dollars.

One percent is a fair rate, not a headline-beating one. Plenty of fiat cards match or beat it. The reason to use this card is the crypto funding and the Ledger tie-in, with cashback as a sensible bonus rather than the main event. Check the best crypto cards list if raw cashback percentage is your only priority.

Credit line and ATM access

There is an optional crypto-collateral credit line that starts at 0%. You post crypto as collateral and borrow against it rather than selling, which can help if you would rather not trigger a taxable sale to cover spending. Read the terms before you lean on it: a rate that starts at 0% is a starting point, and collateralized credit carries liquidation risk if your posted asset drops. The full detail lives on the legal page.

For cash, you can withdraw local currencies at ATMs worldwide, which makes it usable when you travel. The product page does not list specific ATM or FX fees, and the fee schedule at withcl.com/legal varies by region, so confirm the current numbers for your country before you rely on it abroad. I will not quote an FX figure here because the official page does not give one.

The one thing to keep straight

Your Ledger holdings stay self-custodied on your device. The CL spending account is a different animal: it is operated by Baanx (via Monavate in the EU), not by Ledger. Only load what you plan to spend, and keep your long-term stack on the device where your keys live.

What's good

  • You fund straight from crypto in your Ledger Wallet, signed with your Ledger device, so your main stack never touches an exchange
  • Flat 1% cashback on everything, paid in BTC, USDC or USDT depending on country
  • Free virtual card to start, with Apple Pay and Google Pay working out of the box
  • Optional crypto-collateral credit line from 0% if you would rather borrow than sell

What to watch

  • The card balance is custodial: funds you load sit with Baanx, not on your Ledger
  • KYC is required, so this is not an anonymous card
  • FX and ATM fees are not shown on the product page; you must check withcl.com/legal for your region
  • Availability is limited to the EEA, UK, US, Canada, Switzerland, Colombia, Mexico and Brazil, so check your country first

The verdict

Get this card if you already own a Ledger, want to spend a portion of your crypto without shipping it to an exchange, and you value the direct hardware-wallet funding path plus a steady 1% back. It suits a self-custody user who understands that the spending float is custodial and is fine loading only what they intend to use. Skip it if you want the highest possible cashback rate, if you refuse any custodial account on principle, or if you live outside the supported regions. If you are weighing it against alternatives, run your priorities through the card finder before you commit.
